Good news. But even with this, we have to deal with hoarders:
AUSTIN ( KXAN , March 20, 2020 ) — The Texas State Board of Pharmacy put in place new changes that will limit prescriptions for the drugs showing promise in treating COVID-19.
The Board held an emergency meeting Friday afternoon after concerns that pharmacists are dispensing an increased amount of chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, mefloquine, azithromycin.
Allison Benz, Executive Director of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy , said they’ve recently been made aware of the problem.
“Apparently, prescribers are writing prescriptions to stockpile the drugs for themselves/family members and their office staff as a preventative,” Benz said. “It seems like people are trying to start hoarding these medications just like they’ve been hoarding toilet paper and water.”

apparently not so much. the “study” everyone latches onto was hardly a study. no control group, very small sample. if you don’t have a control group you have no confidence the proposed treatment was effective.
it’s like telling someone the reason your car has gone 150,000 miles is because you changed the oil every 500 miles, when you have no evidence it wouldn’t have gone 150,000 with the standard 7,500 mile oil change interval.
clearly this “emergency authorization” without trial or study is due to pressure from above. St. Donald told people it worked, so they’ve got to make sure he doesn’t look wrong. sad how many people in his administration exist to try to bend reality to fit what he says.

the division of regulatory agencies (overseers of all C olorado licensees, including medical licenses) sent a statement out last week about not writing excessive prescriptions for those meds since pharmacies are already out after the orange fucktard in chief tweeted this last week.

that’s the only reason it got “emergency approval” for this w/o study or trial.

Yep. And a more recent study (though still tiny) showed no difference in outcomes. There are bigger studies underway. Some of those are still not real double blind trials, but it sounds like there are some proper ones as well. I certainly hope these drugs are effective, but it wouldn’t be shocking at this point to learn they don’t do anything (except potentially cause harmful side effects).

the saddest part is the army of ignoramuses on Twitter and Facebook who are screaming about restrictions on it. as if they have any fucking clue about pharmacology; all they know is “lots of people think it works.”
as if drug efficacy and safety is a matter of public opinion.

People that rely on this medicine for legitimate ailments are in trouble, my wife for one. She needs this drug and it’s unclear if her scripts will continue to be filled. Unintended consequences, courtesy of Presiden t Dotard.

My thought exactly. Not that I wouldn't like such a straightforward solution to work, but I think someone with medical training would be better to make that determination...

I mean, it’s not wrong to hold out hope, but that doesn’t mean “go be an Alex Jones-style incendiary asshole on the internet about it.”

The WSJ writer didn’t build things up to more than what the were, just a bit of promise. I personally wouldn’t have any qualms with doctors and hospital staff moving to the head of the queue for these drugs.
Regarding the president’s Alternative Facts people -- notice how Kelly Anne has pretty much dropped off the radar? -- what bugs me is how he thinks aloud in front of microphones and in his Twitter account.

Despite what the former governor of Kansas says, there’s more evidence out there to tell you how you’ll fare with this disease vs how you’ll fare taking s drug cocktail of non antiviral drugs.
If you need the term in vitro defined for you, I’d just let your doctor tell you what to do.
Writing articles like this, clearly aimed at people who have no knowledge or experience in medicine, virology, toxicology, pharmacology... is very dangerous.

I'm surprised there isn't already a class-action lawsuit over this.

I only read the parts of your comment I wanted to see... so now I’m gonna start changing the oil on my car every 500 miles.

My wife and I were watching the Ken Burns Vietnam documentary last night and being interviewed was a former NVA man who said that only the people who didn’t fight argue over who won or lost.
